Three Ways to Support the AAPI Community

The onslaught of media coverage, social media stories, and shocking footage regarding Anti-Asian racism have left me feeling angry, overwhelmed, and helpless, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Sharing resources, thought-provoking content and news updates via Instagram Stories has been a healthy outlet for me and a constructive way to spread awareness, but I realize how it can be difficult for people to keep track of all the resources they come across. That’s why I created this blog post to host the organizations and campaigns that would be impactful and tangible ways for anyone to demonstrate their support for the AAPI community.

I will continue updating this as I come across more campaigns and resources, so feel free to share this with your friends and family, and comment below if you think there are any other organizations or campaigns that I should add to this list. Thanks in advance for reading this and doing your part to support the AAPI community ❤️

2. Stop AAPI Hate

“In response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University launched the Stop AAPI Hate reporting center on March 19, 2020. The center tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.” You can donate to Stop AAPI Hate to support their efforts to track and respond to the surge of racism and xenophobia.

3. #HATEISAVIRUS Community Action Fund

#HATEISAVIRUS is a “nonprofit community of mobilizers and amplifiers to dismantle racism and hate.” Their newest initiative is to raise $1M to give back to national and “local organizations with programs that serve various short-term and long-term goals of our community, including mental health services, improving safety & care for our elderly and efforts that build solidarity and consider the effects on other BIPOC communities.”

2. Read — “MINOR FEELINGS: AN ASIAN AMERICAN RECKONING'“

“With sly humor and a poet’s searching mind, Hong uses her own story as a portal into a deeper examination of racial consciousness in America today. This intimate and devastating book traces her relationship to the English language, to shame and depression, to poetry and female friendship. A radically honest work of art, Minor Feelings forms a portrait of one Asian American psyche—and of a writer’s search to both uncover and speak the truth.”
