Khaki Green & Feathers
The last time I can remember sporting these feather earrings was when I lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I had a totally different style then: waist-long, highlighted hippie hair, piled on statement jewelry, & flowy garments. I remember having such a carefree spirit, which I admit was mostly due to my naivete, but I don't regret it one bit.
I also blame it on Buenos Aires' paradoxical culture: a slow-paced, relaxed way of life in a seemingly chaotic metropolitan city. Coming from LA, I was comfortable with the hustle & bustle, but was totally unfamiliar with their unexpectedly lax approach. There, it was normal to expect delays in EVERYTHING: buses, subways, people, events. I quickly adopted the Porteña attitude of accepting the inconveniences as part of life, and relinquished my control.
There's no doubt that I've taken the Porteño spirit back with me to the States. The accumulation of crazy experiences, both good and bad, have left a significant impression on my heart in the form of several lessons. In the face of adversity, I've learned how to still unwind and live it up, as they do. I've learned when it's time to just throw my hands up in the air, accept the situation for what it is, and to fully immerse myself in that moment. And last but not least, I've learned the Porteño art of celebration, or in other words, the experience of staying out late and enjoying life with great company until the sun beckons.
